A Visitor From the Past~

by Thelen Paulk

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a dream the other night, I did not understand--
A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand.
His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by my bed.
He took off his three-cornered-hat and speaking low, he said,

"We fought a revolution to secure our Liberty,
We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny.
For future generations this legacy we gave
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave.

The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep,
But tyrants labored endlessly, while your parents were asleep.
Your freedom gone - Your courage lost - You're no more than a slave
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave.

You buy a permit to travel, and a permit to own a gun,
Permits to start a business or to build a place for one.
On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent,
Although you have no voice in choosing, how the money's spent.

Your children must attend a school that does not educate,
Your Christian values can't be taught, according to the State.
You read about the current news in a regulated press.
You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the I.R.S.

Your money is no longer made of silver or of gold.
You trade your wealth for paper, so your life can be controlled.
You pay for crimes that make your nation turn from God in shame.
You've taken Satan's number, as you traded in your name.

You've given government control to those who do you harm,
So they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm,
And keep our country deep in debt, put men of God in jail,
Harass your fellow countrymen while corrupted courts prevail.

Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they've sworn.
Your daughters visit doctors, so their children won't be born.
Your leaders ship artillery and guns to foreign shores,
and send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars.

Can you regain your freedom, for which we fought and died?
Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride?
Are there no more values for which you would fight to save,
or do you wish your children, to live in fear and be a slave?

Sons of the Republic, arise and take a stand!
Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land!
Preserve our great Republic, and teach each God-given right,
And pray to God, to keep the torch of freedom burning bright!"

As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from whence he came.
His words were true, we are not Free, we have ourselves to blame.
For even now, as tyrants trample each God-given right,
We only watch and tremble, too afraid to stand and fight.

If he stood by your bedside, in a dream, while you're asleep,
And wonders what remains of our Rights he fought to keep,
What would be your answer, if he called out from the grave:
"Is this still the land of the free and the home of the brave???"

May the best man win....

I'm so glad that some people still believe in taking a stand for what is right!

On quite a different, more humorous note, this was shared by a friend the other day and I thought it was kind of fun. Can you find the baby in this picture?

It took me a while to see it!

Andrew had quite good success with the car he's been working on for a customer and also on the light blue car he's fixing up (possibly to sell to Mom?). My dad hauled our neighbors' wheat to Harvey, then came back and loaded up another load of hay to sell down South. Hay sales have been such a blessing to our family this year! We are indeed sad for the people down in the southern states who've been suffering such a terrible drought, but we are glad that God sent the moisture here so we can help fulfill a need to those who are hurting.

We serve a wonderful Lord!

An unexpected pleasant visit...

This morning, shortly before noon, an elderly gentleman came to buy some computer disc from Andrew. Well, he ended up being a very talkative, jolly fellow and he must have been here at least an hour, discussing everything from computers, to health, to religion, to politics, to the best jokes, to............... It was fun and we found we had several things in common.

We ate a quick, belated lunch (we'd asked the gentleman to join us, but he had to be on his way) and then Dad headed over to a neighbors' farm to load up a load of wheat (I think that's what it was). The boys worked on projects; Mom rested a while (she was suffering from a lack of sleep from the convention!); I cleaned in my room for a while and did some necessary paper-work.

Yes, it was a good day.

They're back....

My parents arrived home this evening and we are now just waiting for Andrew to get back from Minot. He should be back any minute.

Things went really well here at home for Jacob and I. PTL! There was even a little fruit pizza leftover for Dad's supper. :)

Busy day.

That it was.

Jacob helped me clean the house. Andrew worked out in the shop most of the day (Jacob helped him out there too.) I made chicken; stuffing; and fruit pizza for supper.

I talked to Mom a little bit ago on the phone and she said they're having a marvelous time. They are just now watching the "White elephant auction", one where all the funds on the donated items goes to NPSAS. Someone just bid $350 on a 20lb bag of garlic! :)

Jacob and I helped Andrew get ready to go this evening by packing him his lunch and supper. He plans to leave at 6:00AM. OH, the phone is ringing.... It's probably Mom again. Jacob just got it.

Well all, have a wonderful weekend! May God bless you REEEEEAL good.~ :)

They're leaving early....

....My parents are, that is. It's been several years since my mom's had a chance to go with my dad to the Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society's annual convention (or, as we call it, "The Organic Convention"). This time, things will be different! Both of my parents are leaving very early in the morning to attend the 2-day convention in Aberdeen. I know they'll have a wonderful time. Dad even arranged for them to have all their meals there with the group (all very healthy food, naturally) as a belated-birthday gift to Mom, so we didn't have to pack them any food except for breakfasts. :)

Meanwhile, back at the farm, my brothers and I will be taking care of the "Critters" and cleaning the house and cooking and playing games and doing some work and......? On Saturday, Andrew will be gone all day, helping his good friend, Jonathan with instructing/supervising an all-day Appleseed Shoot event in Minot. I'm sure glad that Jacob knows how to feed the cows! I'll gladly milk the cow if he'll do that! :)

We had a very good day here at home, Mother and I. Imagine it----both of us home, together, all day! We did a lot of laundry; finished getting our very-belated annual family newsletters ready to be mailed; I made bread, pizza, and buttermilk cookies with icing; we did a kitchen-full of dishes; did some necessary paperwork; chores; and Mom is right now finishing up with their packing.

Our guys were over by Spiritwood all day again today and got the one cleaner all taken apart and brought home. Now they just have the whole other one to do......
I just read this verse in Proverbs (22:29) and thought it was very fitting for our gentleman:

"Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."

Yes, very fitting indeed. Oh, and if there are any mean men reading this, :) , please, won't you just be nice? ~

A few things to brighten your day~

Maybe you need some help?

Here are the kinds of things that make me smile: ENJOY and *SMILE*~

*SMILE*

"Ever notice how people who tell you to calm down are the ones who got you mad in the fist place?"Good times are had in many barns....

*SMILE*

Good pals can make people smile....

...Remember to sing in the rain!

Awwww..... I thought piggies like the mud?

I don't know if this picture is real or not? I'm guessing there were some people NOT smiling about it if it is indeed real! Just think, if you haven't done this to your vehicle, how wonderful that fact is----and *smile*!

"Love wholeheartedly, be surprised, give thanks and praise----then you will discover the fullness of your life."

*Smile*

You don't want to look like these 2 sour-faces!

Yep, you look better when you *SMILE*!

Even birds can smile, in a way....

So can eggs!

So can you, and....

"Oh be careful little eyes what you see...." *Smile*

People say they need motivation to exercise. Well, this might work? "Exercise with T-Rex..."

Babies are just so adorable!

Older children can be pretty cute too!

*Smile!*

Is that a, um, fish?

*Smile*

I might even have room in my very full room for this kind of cat! I wonder how you feed it?

Hmmm, yeah, my fish probably wouldn't be too thrilled with this kind of cat either...!

Realizing God's amazing care and protection of us can make us *SMILE*!

I'm sure this didn't R-E-A-L-L-Y happen, but it made me smile.... :)

Sometimes, your boots just don't keep up with the kind of week you've had!!!

That's all for now. I hope at least a few of these made you, yes, *SMILE*!!!!!~

I'm back at last...

...after a rather long, unexpected break--from everything. Why, you might ask? Well, it was due to a little bug named "FLU". :( I had it the worst. Mother had it too somewhat and the guys had/have colds. I quite literally spent 4+ days on the couch, missing 2 days of work in town and also a babysitting date.

Yep, this is pretty much how I felt: God has His reasons for such things though, I know, even when we can't see them!

Thankfully, we are all feeling better now, except for my dad who just seems to be coming down with a cold now. He and the boys were over by Spirit Wood all day, working on disassembling 2 grain cleaners that they bought. They are located in an old elevator, so the guys had some shelter, but it was still cold I'm sure and so very dusty in there. My dad's cousin, Jerome helped them for the day too... They plan to go again tomorrow.

I'm not even sure what all went on around here while I was sleeping the days away. I guess if it was anything earth-shattering, then someone else will have to shatter the earth and tell you about it.

It feels good to be back! The Lord is so good.

We're Republicans---officially. :)

This evening, my parents, Andrew and I attended our districts' (Republican) reorganization meeting in Linton. It was run well and we learned several things, having never participated in such a meeting before.

One of my FaceBook friends shared the following video recently and I thought it was full of good thing to think about for us professing Christians in this critical decision making time:

Let me know what you think!

Pictures I took at camp:

Here are the slightly-belated pictures that I promised from Cabin Fever Family Camp, 2012. Enjoy! :)

We picked room #:

....just a couple rooms down the hallway from a couple sweet families we know.

It was a comfy, yellow room with many beds to choose from. Jacob and I slept on the top bunks and I do believe mine was the noisiest in the room! None of us slept very well the first night, but the second night was much better. Andrew was home doing chores Friday night and then Dad went home and did them Saturday evening... "Thanks again, guys!"After the first talk by Mr. Swanson, all the young people headed for the gym. Here are some people lined up on one end of the building:
...and more people on the other end, all of them just waiting for someone to say "Go" so they could all run to the middle and try to grab a ball for a game of something like freeze-tag, except, if you were tagged, you went in "Jail". You had a chance to escape from jail if one of your team-mates got someone from the other team in "Jail".

My friend, Hayley, all in a blur, with her yellow ball:

During the "Free time" on Saturday and Sunday, there were many games of volleyball being played! (Can you spot Andrew in this picture?)

Saturday night, after Mr. Swanson's last talk, many people went roller skating. Here is a dusty picture of Andrew: He was so kind as to take me for several spins around the room while I was trying to get used to being on wheels. :) I didn't fall even once, although I almost did several times!

This is a picture of the girls' dorm where our family stayed:

The large gym:

The boys' dorm---which also had a fellowship area:

The dining hall:

The chapel:

More volleyball: (If you look closely, you can spot my friend, Miranda in this picture.) :)

We made several new friends and enjoyed the time of fellowshipping with them and with our dear "Old" friends as well!!! Here you can see Mom, watching the volleyball game along with some other ladies:
That's all of my pictures. I know Mother took more pictures than I did this time and Andrew video-taped Mr. Swansons' talks, so we have several things to remember this family camp by.

I think it delights the Lord when His people get to know each other and find encouragement in one anothers' experiences! I praise Him for getting us to camp this year...............
