Last night during chores, I was surprised to see 3 baby chicks by the milking stall with their mother around them, feathers ruffled up and clucking noises coming from somewhere in her throat! Then this evening, during chores, I was glad to see 1 new calf out in the pasture by the farm. :) Our blind cow, Andrea (who someone gave to us as a calf about 5 years ago and who we just keep near the farm, as she knows how her whereabouts in these pastures) had a beautiful black heifer calf. Andrew and I rode out on the 4-wheeler to see it.
My dad cleaned grain again today, then planted more cover-crops. It's pretty late and dry for cover-crops to grow, but this is the last year in the cover-crop program that we agreed to do, so it has to be planted, rain or shine. Jacob was driving the tractor pulling the disc all day, trying to keep ahead of Dad. If all goes well, they should finish tomorrow. Andrew was busy hauling CRP bales home all day again. This evening, he did take Mom's rifle out (he'd cleaned it, as it was jammed) and shot it some, so as to make sure it's working now. She bought it a couple years ago at Grandpa D.'s auction sale, but hasn't really used it since, because it jammed right away and, well, nobody ever unjammed it until now. She wants to sell it and get a different one before our next Appleseed shoot which, by the way, starts one month from today!
My mom went to Bismarck to see clients today. I cared for Johanna and Tracy Jo until a little after 5:00PM. Johanna is talking more and more each day! Fun....
