Polka Dot cake~

I decorated a cake today for a neighbors' friends' baby-shower... It was my 3rd attempt at using fondant on a cake and it turned out fairly well. As I'm so tired, I thought I'd just post these pictures and let them tell the story for me. After all, they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Sleep well everyone~

Wow! Very impressive Cora! Especially since you all have been so busy of late! ;) I love the design! And that bow is great! You did such a wonderful job on this! (no joke!) ;D I have only done one cake so far with fondant. I really hated the taste of it. :P Bleck! I keep meaning to try some homemade marshmallow fondant instead, as I've heard it tastes a whole lot better. :) Do you use the packaged stuff or do you make your own? How long did it take you to make this cake, just wondering? ;)

Love and Hugs!

p.s. - I love that panoramic view of you in the kitchen! :D That turned out great!

Thank you for the sweet comments, Kimberly & Rachel!

I made my own fondant, Rachel. It is Marshmallow Fondant and it was really nice to work with--plus it tastes pretty good! I'd highly recommend you give it a try! It is a little messy to make, but is fun to work with once it's ready...

I baked the cakes the day before; frosted them in the morning with REAL buttercream icing and then made the fondant and decorated the cake most of the afternoon. It would have taken less time if I'd been more experienced I'm sure, as I didn't have the fondant thin enough and soft enough the first time I tried to put it on the big cake, and it bulged and wouldn't cooperate... I ended up taking it off; adding some water; kneading it some more and doing it over again. Other than that, it worked pretty well.

Oh, my brother Jacob took the picture of me in the kitchen and I was impressed too!

Hugs and blessings~

It was so nice to hear from you! I always enjoy meeting new people here...
I hope you do give cake decorating a try, as it's not really as hard as it looks--especially if you have a picture to look at so you have a general idea of what you want the outcome to be. :)
