Question: What goes great with vegetable soup?

Our answer: Fry bread!

Mother and I spent a good portion of our morning cutting and chopping away at vegetables in order to make 2 large pots of soup. Mom had the great idea to make Fry Bread to go with the soup, so I got busy and made a batch of bread so we could use some of the dough for frying...
When lunch was over, we still had 13 quarts of soup to can for later use. :) We used the pressure canner--something we don't use very often, as it still makes us ladies a little nervous.

One of my afternoon projects was to get the next batch of Kombucha going again. This time, I tried a new flavor of tea in one of the gallons (it's called "Apple Cider".) We'll see how we like it. The other 3 gallons I made with Peach tea--so far our favorite. We still use the full amount of black tea that's called for, but we add the flavored tea to make the resulting drink taste better!

It was so nice outside that the guys were able to continue working on cleaning out the lot across the road. They had a few minor break-downs on the spreaders, but those were fixed without too much trouble and they worked until dark.

And now, before I go, I'll share a poem with you that fits perfectly with the time of year we're enjoying...

NOVEMBER
by Elizabeth Coatsworth

November comes,
And November goes
With the last red berries
And the first white snows,

With night coming early
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost on the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.

Oh I like that poem! Where do you find all the lovely little poems you share? Is fry bread just deep-fried bread dough?

Thanks for the comments ladies!

Jen,
I found this picture quite a while ago and saved it for future use, so unfortunately, I don't remember where it came from. (Some free graphics place...)

Hannah~
We have several poem books that I love to look through and that's where I usually find the poems I share. This last one came from the book, "The Year Around".
Yes, the fry bread we made was just bread dough rolled out into small circles and then deep-fat fried and then we salt it once it's done. Yummy! There is an actual recipe for German Fry Bread (Kiechle) that we used to follow, but it doesn't taste much different than the bread dough fried up, so we usually make fry bread at the same time we're making regular bread.

Oh, yum! I was planning on making some soup for our dinner tonight! :D I love to have soup stored away for those cold months ahead don't you? ;)

HaHa! I think we have that book, and I'm pretty sure that is a poem Jessica put on her writing blog, or was planning on putting up sometime this month! :d Neat! I love that poem! It's the perfect thing for this season! ;D

Love and Hugs!
