Above Rubies...

A dear friend at Family Camp asked me if I'd ever heard of/read "Above Rubies". When I replied in the negative, she said she highly recommended it to all women/young ladies. She had even gone and stayed a couple months to help with everything that needs doing in order to publish a magazine!

So, a few days back, I subscribed (I was very surprised to learn that there was no charge) and also ordered all the back issues that are still in print. I was very glad to see that the back-issues had arrived in the mail today, as I actually had some time for reading this afternoon. :) From what I've read and seen so far, I also would highly recommend this magazine to others! You can find out more at ABOVE RUBIES. I especially love all the pictures of families and reading about what the Lord has done in their lives....

It was indeed a peaceful day at home. We listened to one of Mr. Kevin Swansons' messages and sang several songs for our worship service today. In the later part of the afternoon, (after Mother napped, the guys did various things, and I played piano) all of us--except for Jacob--watched "Pamela's Prayer", which I had also ordered from the Above Rubies website. The movie's main message was very good, but we wondered at a couple of the scenes which didn't quite seem to fit with the moral of the story? Has anyone else ever watched this movie? If so, what did you think of it?

Cora, I heard from someone that there's to be an Above Rubies retreat in Williston this fall. Maybe the current issue lists their upcoming retreats? I am wondering if I missed staying on their mailing list because I've not received one of their magazines in a while.

I've read the Above Rubies magazine and enjoyed it. Nancy Campbell is a vibrant woman if you ever meet her and makes the magazine even more special. Yes, we've seen Pamela's Prayer quite a few times and enjoy it. Would be interested in hearing what you thought was inconsistent. Pamela's mom died of the same thing that happened to me when I had Priscilla so I am once again thankful for God sparing my life whenever I watch it. Considering the time that it really happened, I think it was pretty good because we we're aware of things then like we are today. I sure do enjoy your blog, Corra, you are a sweet young lady and I encourage you to keep up the good work you do on your blog!

I meant to say we weren't as aware of things back then like we are today. It's been a long day and my thoughts are getting jumbled :)

Thank you both for writing!

Mrs. Bartlett,
I checked and found the information about that retreat--on the Above Rubies website actually (http://www.aboverubies.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32&Itemid=84----scroll down a bit to find about the ND retreat). The scheduled dates are October 5th and 6th at The Upper Missouri Ministry, Williston, ND. Thank you for sharing that! It would be great to be able to go..... Do you plan/hope to attend? Also, will I be seeing you at David & Crystal's wedding? :)

Mrs. Krahn,
You've met Mrs. Campbell then? Neat!
We did appreciate the message of Pamela's Prayer a lot, but thought it was pretty strange that her father would let her go alone with Wayne to the rock formations when he would not allow her to go to the ball-game (where there would be lots of other people around) with another young man. Then, every time after that, they were chaperoned. I'm sure he trusted "Wayne", having worked with him for quite a while and all, but still, we are to make no provisions for the flesh..... I just thought that part seemed out of character for the father, as he loved his daughter so much and wanted to protect her.
I did not realize that you had such a difficult/dangerous pregnancy! I praise the Lord that He delivered you through that difficult time....
Thank you too for the encouragment! I/we always enjoy and are blessed by your blog also.

Yeah, I agree. I think that some parents had good intentions but didn't really know how it should go. I'm so thankful for Biblical books and videos to show us how to protect our sons and daughters from potential bad situations. They just didn't know back then since it was a lost teaching. Arthur and I didn't kiss till our wedding or even hold hands, but if we knew then what we know now we would've done even more things different. Thanks for sharing.
