Something practical~

(To the tune of The 12 days of Christmas)
~On the sixth day of blogging, my conscience said to me,
"Post something practical...
You--are--so--blessed!
Will you share God's peace?
Can you share God's joy?
Are you waisting time,
And can you blog-and do it hum-bl-y?"

Today I thought I'd share a quote we heard a long time ago about the balance that's needed in everyone's life, a balance between spirituality and practicality. Here's the quote: "Some people are so Heavenly minded that they are of no earthly good." It is good and right to try to live as God wants us to live--every second of every day, but we need to be balanced. If we sit and pray and worship the Lord all day long, nothing much will get done in the line of work that He wants us to be doing. (At least, I haven't noticed the laundry folding itself!) On the other hand, if we work all day and never pray for help and guidance, we lose sight of what's really important in life.

Consequently, as I was thinking about what I've posted so far, I decided to post something practical today. Can you guess what it will be???

=A recipe!

This is one my favorite "Healthy" recipes to make when I only have a little time to prepare a dessert. A dear friend shared the recipe with me, along with several other recipes that have become our favorites too (a great ice cream recipe included). It uses quite a bit of Carob powder, (we get ours from Azure Standard=http://www.azurestandard.com/) so the first time I made it, I thought only my mom & I would like it. However, the boys really like it now too (they say it's addictive!) and my dad doesn't mind it too much. :) Here is the recipe for "Carob Chips".

Melt: 1 cup of butter
1/2 cup coconut oil

Add: 1/2 tsp. vanilla
a little sprinkle of Stevia (optional)
1/2 cup peanut butter
about 1/4 cup honey (a little more if you don't use Stevia). You could maybe use 1/2 sugar instead, although I've never tried it.

Then stir in: about 1 1/2 cups of carob powder (or cocoa for cocoa chips), keep adding carob until the mixture is the consistency of cake batter.

Now comes the fun part: Mix in whatever kind of nuts, sunflower seeds, raisins, coconut, etc... you'd like. We really like putting a couple drops of peppermint essential oil in for a refreshing mint flavor.

When you have it all mixed up to your liking, spread it on a piece of wax-paper in a cookie sheet and freeze until hard. When it's solid, you can either cut it in pieces or just break it apart. It tastes so good--almost like a rich fudge. ENJOY!

Dear Cora Beth,
AMEN to both the concept and the recipie.
I can recall one friend who had impressed me soooooo much with her prayer life when we were living in Bismarck. I mean this lady REALLY got answers to prayers!!! Then one day she invited our family over for lunch. I will never forget the look on your papa's face when he saw the mess in that house--not to mention the smell. ): I swear that sink was NEVER empty of dirty dishes as the water couldn't have been changed in weeks. After we gulped down the food, we left quickly. Robert said to me as we walked to the car, "No wonder she's divorced twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Credit goes to Karlene Materi for sharing this concept that, "Some people are so Heavenly minded that they're no earthly good." It really helped me a lot to see that God wants us to pray WHILE we're working and not INSTEAD OF working!!!
The recipie is wonderful ladies. Two of our three carob haters have been converted to carob with this recipie. YUM--thanks for making it recently you sweetie Cora.
Love always,
Mom
